Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for. I always use BBF in AI servo and rarely shoot while the BB is pushed, and I've often wondered why I can't see the active AF point later. Thanks Alan, you may not have answered the OP's question but you have clarified something for me. Not having an 80D, or any of the other recent cameras with advanced AF systems, I cannot really offer any other suggestions.īigAl007 wrote in post #18114305 (external link) If as you say not using BBAF, or are just using the default settings, where BOTH the back AF-On button, and the first press of the shutter will activate the AF, this is not likely to be the cause of your missing AF points. In head to head comparisons the Canon 80D video looks more natural and less pumped up than, say, the a6300. While the 80D doesn’t have as many video modes as some of the other competitors (no 4K), the video quality and color rendition is exceptional. If no AF point was recorded as active, it is not possible for the software to overlay the AF point in the display software, be that on the camera LCD, on the computer in DPP, or even any other software that reads the relevant EXIF data. If you are a YouTuber, the 80D might well be the best choice for you. Since it is then normal to just use AI Servo, and press then release the back button to simulate Single shot AF, when you release the AF button you no longer have an active AF system, so there is no "active" AF point to record into the files EXIF data. If using the classic BBAF setup, where the shutter button only controls metering, and the actual shutter release, it is the back button doing the controlling of the AF. I should have pointed out this is on playback of images on the LCD screen, not the VF at the moment of capture. The layout is somewhat familiar: we have a folder selector panel on the left, on the bottom we can view the images in the selected folder, on the right LightZone displays the relevant information on the selected image file, including EXIF data, and the center panel displays the selected image itself in the case of a raw file it is displayed as developed with default settings. ![]() In any case with back button AF surely the camera still carries out an AF operation, and that should be recorded. ![]() The AF is working normally, with the AF points showing active in the viewfinder. Thanks Alan, that occurred to me too as something to check, but I have AF on the shutter release, as per the default.
